Wikipedia =/= Factual Content

May 8th, 2008 at 1:03 am
i agree with most except for the religious bits.
you don’t need religions to be happy.
May 8th, 2008 at 1:05 am
Nice and great listing to go better in the life
May 8th, 2008 at 1:45 am
I added up the number of hours required in a day to accomplish this list. It came to 37.
May 8th, 2008 at 2:21 am
I wouldn’t say join a religion is a good step to improving your life.
May 8th, 2008 at 3:17 am
Very good bravo. Hope that many people read and do some of your good advice. Brieghel

Nice list, but of course it is only 98 ways to improve your life. choosing a religion and going to church is not a good thing for a atheist like me, but other than that awesome list.

What utter arse gravy of the highest order. The vast majority of these things could be summed up with “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”, and Bobby McFerrin has the good sense to put this little nugget to a tune.
I tend to dodge lists of all kinds, and I don’t know what prompted me to open this one, but all I can say is that sometimes there just isn’t enough vomit in the world.
May 8th, 2008 at 6:00 am
After reading #31 I decided that I’ll never read anything here again.
May 8th, 2008 at 6:01 am
It’s incredibly ignorant to suggest someone join a religion in order to improve your life.
May 8th, 2008 at 6:22 am
I’m not particularly religious either, but she just said CONSIDER religion. She didn’t say shave your head and give away flowers at the airport.
May 8th, 2008 at 6:49 am
Great list! Loved how you presented it… very clean and easy to read
May 8th, 2008 at 6:51 am
Consider religion…should be in “100 simple ways to change your life for the worst”
May 8th, 2008 at 7:15 am
Rini, kamal, mike you should consider God not religion. There is a higher power and without GOD what is life other than just doing stuff till death.
May 8th, 2008 at 7:17 am
It’s been my experience that those who find their spiritualism from within develop better coping skills than those who need to join an organized religion to learn what to believe. Faith should start with having faith in oneself. I, therefore, would suggest that #31 be changed to “Free yourself of religious doctrine that doesn’t feel right deep inside.”
May 8th, 2008 at 8:16 am
Obviously some people feel that religion is not for them, and as mentioned above, these are suggestions, not an instant formula for a better life.
For many, many people, religion is the purpose for existing, so to them, it IS important for a better life. Just because it is a suggestion on the list, it should not be grounds to “never read anything here again” or presume that this list is “ignorant”.
Considering the majority of the world is religious in one way or another, it is important to the quality of life for many.
May 8th, 2008 at 8:59 am
how about being honest with yourself and others? and having enough insight to know when something helps you for the better or for the worst… maybe you should include something like “practice good judgment”.
May 8th, 2008 at 9:12 am
For some, religion is taking a list such as this and making it your way of life. For those, # 31 is already accomplished!
Why has no one complained: “I’m allergic to fish, if I eat it, I’ll die - what a stupid list!”? Because I think for that one, we realize it’s a suggestion for healthier eating. Most of these suggestions will refocus you or otherwise help you improve yourself. I, for one, will not be taking shorter showers, however many things here are good reminders
Thank you!
May 8th, 2008 at 10:39 am
LOL–Why is it those who are so against religion posess the most religious fervor? I guess “anti-religion” is the new religion, and the zealots are out in full force!
May 8th, 2008 at 11:36 am
What a great list. Thanks for sharing!
May 8th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
I wouldn’t say join a religion but rather become more spiritual (with a religion or not).
May 8th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
Simply removing the colon will repair item 31.
“Consider religion if you’re not a spiritual person.”
May 8th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Great list. It made my day.
May 8th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
Excellent list. Good to see that I do many of these things already.
May 9th, 2008 at 11:06 pm
Great List but will it get me laid if i follow it!
May 10th, 2008 at 9:11 am
Go to Church? That’s the stupidest advice I’ve ever seen. Yes, some people need friends.. but how desperate one needs to be to try to make friends with losers who ruin their life by believing in 2000 year old superstitions!
May 10th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
Nice list. Touched on all aspects of life.
May 10th, 2008 at 11:46 pm
Great List…. Nice…. Good Job..
May 11th, 2008 at 9:46 pm
pretty logical stuff but the religious shit and the “plan” one. but i understand that you’re trying to reach all kinds.
May 12th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
I’d just like to comment to all the people who have said the religion part was a waste of words on this list, religion is merely a set of beliefs. Religion does not mean christian, catholic, muslim, mormon, jewish, or any other specific set of beliefs. It is simply having a set of beliefs. The nazis were religious people, the people who crashed into the twin towers were religious people, people who believe in God and Jesus are religious. Each group just had a different set of beliefs that made up their religion. Don’t call people ignorant when you’re just as ignorant yourself.
May 14th, 2008 at 2:47 am
I thought this was a wonderful list. It is also quite strange that in my bout of depression I happened to “Stumble!” upon this list. There are about 96 (rough guess) items on this list I do not do. There are quite a few I have actually considered, but was not motivated enough to do. Reading this list may have just sparked the motivation I need to accomplish those few things I thought about doing. Thank you for this pick-me-up.
Sincerely,
Chris
May 15th, 2008 at 3:31 am
I thought this was a great list - despite the reference to religion (each to their own after all, possibly another list point there, living and let live …). We can all do with a nudge to motivate us to live happier lives and anything that does that is valuable in my book - thank you.
May 15th, 2008 at 5:11 am
To Chris: You happened to stumble upon this website under your personal depression? Stumbleupon and the internett is full of these lists. Someone in this fucked up world is stealing energy from good people. Its the elitists, the warmakers, the arrogant rich and powerfull, the devil whorshippers, This planet is truly hell!! Everybody has the right to be depressed. But the most important, TO BE ANGRY!!! Don`t be angry at each other. Look up ahead. look at the top. Look at the people behind the movie screens. The TV. Look at the people pushing the buttons and telling you how to think and what ideals you should follow. QUESTION YOUR REALITY!
May 17th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
This is a great compilation, satisfies many of my dillemas and confusions. It is good to have something to work towards and if you have a set of rules and guidelines, it becomes a lot easier. Thanks for providing the same.
May 17th, 2008 at 10:54 pm

Even the comments are very inspiring to read. It’s good to find people who are actually thinking out of the ordinary, and are practical in living their lives.
May 18th, 2008 at 5:46 am
I’m interested in this list because I believe the people who find this list useful and the people who don’t are very incompatible.
I don’t like this list because its confining. To help those who find this page useful understand me i’ll explain.
My kinsmen - JG for example - find a creative outlet in being rude and using swear words. We’d like to write a list of “how to wreck your life in 10 minutes” to get our imagination working. We think drugs can be positive, you know what I mean. More exhibitionist. We feel a need to make an excuse for coming to this site (a lady friend sent me a link). We can be negative about big things - like we didn’t like this country or holding the opinion that there are too many people in the world. We like graffiti because it can be thought provoking, and one new thought is worth more than all the tidy looking buildings in Singapore. We don’t like to tell ourselves not to do things.
So for those lost souls who find ourselves in this strange land of half-marathon runners I have my advice to you:
To be happier you can voluntarily accept limits. People are more happy with “tea or coffee?” than “what would you like to drink?” because the limits make the decision easier. Make your life easier by choosing limits.
Whiter, I’ve always felt chemistry but if you dig this we are so different!
May 20th, 2008 at 2:57 am
Hmmm… these two somehow don’t go together:
2. Get a good night’s rest: You just can’t have a happy and productive life if you’re tired all of the time, so get some quality shut eye.
74. Wake up early: Be an early riser, and you’ll find that you have more time to get things done.
So should I get enough sleep or sleep less to get more things done?

Highfive, Rowan.

who the f^$k said wikipedia =/= factual content… what the hell???
first of all: the symbol for inequality is !=, , or ~= although ~= is mostly used for approximately equal
secondly: wikipeida is factual for the most part - yes yes, there are a few things that aren’t quite checked out, but using common sense will quickly remove any content that is questionable.
it’s so fashionable to pick on wikipedia.

though am not a religious person I would say that the other elements of your list are so important..thanks for this
May 28th, 2008 at 7:29 am
I like no. 63. Yet Ironically I actually stumbled upon this website buy doing just that..
May 28th, 2008 at 8:51 am
This is stupid, plain BS!
What if what happens to make you happy is staying up late with your beloved one
or watching a good movie and getting a little less sleep?
Everybody needs different things and haves different standards of happiness.
You just have to realice your free to choose your life and what you want in it and go get it.
Being happy is your only duty and responsibility.
May 28th, 2008 at 11:32 am
Thank you so much. I needed this. Am really grateful
May 28th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
Awesome list! Full of great advice we should all take. I’m passing this on to friends and family.
May 28th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
Hey all, I stumbled on this site 2 times in the last few months, Thanks for the great and inspiring list of ideas on how to live better…I recently realized there are many ppl who would prefer to be considered “spiritual” instead of religious, too bad…Kamal and Mike Rini Bobby Mohammed are all saying the same thing..Religion doesn’t improve your life…Too bad…To know oneself is the only way to know The Creator. We all have the inclination to “worship” something, be it music fashion or life itself…
There is something beyond our little world, yet instead of looking above and beyond we have silly arguments about lists of things to do with our lives, on websites with wacky names like “nerds do it better” Thanks and may He the One and only bless all of you!
P.S. The list is one of the few I’ve seen include religion, Kudos!! Keep up the good work.
May 30th, 2008 at 8:37 am
I command all to worship me! Oh and praise Jesus too.
May 30th, 2008 at 9:46 am
Nice list. I’ve bookmarked it. For the religion part, some may not agree but the list is just a guideline. Thanks again.
May 31st, 2008 at 6:56 am
Dear Jessica Hupp, do you do all these things?
What is ’simple’, anyway? Telling other people what’s best for them or doing it yourself?
Please allow us to make our own lists.

“Consider religion: If you’re not a spiritual person, consider becoming more involved with religion to improve your emotional well-being.”
Or, if you are a religious person, try to actually think about what you’re believing for a change; you might come to the conclusion that religion is nonsense, which might be truly liberating and will thus change your life for the better, since you’re not being restricted anymore by what your religion dictates.
June 4th, 2008 at 4:19 pm
religion is nonsense, faith is not, and restrictions exist everywhere you go. Try lighting a cigarette in public.
June 6th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
This is an awesome list! Very well thought out and accurate. It’s a shame they don’t teach you things like this in school, this would make for an entirely more educated and mentally stable America.
June 8th, 2008 at 5:30 am
So you mean I should pretend to believe in something I don’t actually believe in. Great. I’m sure that will simplify my life and help unburden my mind from its modern day neuroses.
Xtians miss the point completely, You either believe or you don’t. I don’t. What’s that? you mean you just want me to lie so you can feel better about yourselves. Not gonna happen. You fail it.
June 9th, 2008 at 3:57 am
I stopped reading at “Religion”
June 23rd, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Many people say that others should open their minds to possibilities outside of religion, but are closed to the idea of any good coming from religion. Catholicism for example, even if you don’t believe in Jesus, is about improving your personal life NOW, its about heaven on EARTH!
Who can say that one would be happier fostering the “7 deadly sins” of greed, sloth, envy, etc. In essence, it is about finding happiness and fulfillment and not momentary happiness. (not that every religious person does this, but they should)
August 1st, 2008 at 7:29 am
religion is not for everyone, however, if you know in your heart that you will never become a person who practices religion, then you know where you stand. but, it shouldnt stop you from reading a pretty great list. this list, i dont think, is saying “DO ALL OF THIS NOW!!” it’s more of suggestions, you dont have to take all of them (i mean, im probably not going to stop using my blackberry anytime soon).
August 1st, 2008 at 6:01 pm
It’s funny how people go and say “oh religion is so close minded and ignorant”, when they can’t even read a list of suggestions and get past the fact that religion was mentioned. It’s a list of suggestions, no one is telling you to do anything that is mentioned above or you will die a horrible death or anything. It is merely a list of helpful suggestions. Hey you never know maybe religion will help someone, maybe not you, but someone who reads this may actually enjoy it. Who knows we’re all different that’s what makes this an interesting world. Plus if you preach having and open-mind and acceptance then be quiet and stop getting so worked up over a suggestion on a list that was only intended to try an give different advice to the many diverse sets of people that roam the internet.
On that note pretty nifty list
And High Five Sir Jorge I totally agree with you!!
August 6th, 2008 at 9:05 pm
Very comprehensive list. You have covered the much needed areas. Sometimes there are simple thing that done be done, which makes a BIG difference.

My opinion on this list: I don’t think that if a person just did all these things that their life would instantaneously become magnificent. There might possibly be some confusion there. However, I do believe that many, if not all of these points can potentially benefit ones general well being. They represent a good number of basic elements in life that one can easily regulate in order to achieve happiness. I think that the author is most likely a genuinely happy person who only intends to share some of her methods of success.
My response to all of the resentment towards religion: The thing is, I have to think hard about this. My instant reaction is anger towards those who continue to down talk religion. I would compare it to stomping on ones dreams only because you cannot bear to see the dream, despite its significance and profound emotional relevance to the dreamer. But then at the same time, I feel sorry for these people. The reason for this is because i can see in their words that they for some reason are full of anger and rage at the thought of something that is virtually and completely harmless (except in some situations involving religions such as the Spanish inqusition, which are not direct results of religion [such as happyness and well being], but are trully the manifestations of the evil in men who claim to defend and maintain religion in their zone of control), and if any thing, can be completely beneficial to a human if the practice is based on good intentions. The negative mind states experienced while griping about religion’s presence on earth cannot possibly be a positive experience. Also, I chose to feel the remorse for these people over anger because that IS my religion. As a buddhist I personally believe that I would be creating bad karma for my self to let such petty circumstances (people complaining and hating religion) affect my being. So really my whole point that Im trying to make to these people is that its nothing to get worked up about that some one put religion on a list that is meant to help you.
Thank you very much.

TO ALL THE HATERS!!! This is simply a list of suggestion! A proven way for a “better life” proven so by it’s author. To all of you who are so caught up on #63 I pose a question??? Why are you hear reading this??? I mean, if your life of being non religious is so gratifying then then why even “stumble” upon this page? something is obviously lacking in your life? May it not be the belief in a higher power? 2schay… I am a religious person, and I do understand ” To each their own” Concept And would never oppose my beliefs on anyone! But not only concerning to me is lacking of any traces of anything remotely close to ” morals” But the far more important question on intellect! Who are you to question the authors beliefs? I mean where is your lists?? Again I bring you to the simply fact that you find yourself here reading this list, and somewhere in your simple mind find these idiotic things to comment. This author is here, quote on quote, trying to help you in your life, by ironically preaching the word of God “Due on to others, as you would have them due on to you” and yet you take the time to read this and all you have to say is something hateful? To everyone who took the time out of their day to read this and is not religious and left non negative comments, I applaud you for not only having the presence of an open mind, but having the patience of accepting the idea of something you do not believe in! And to the rest….. Shut off your computer, and get a life!

This is one of the best lists i have ever gone through. I pity those atheists who will suffer a lot when they die. They use all the resources from GOD and yet dont believe in HIM. Sorry for you suckers. There is still time, wake up!

great list, very helpful.
it’s so funny really… we kill eachother, hurt eachother, argue & debate over religion and yet it’s supposed to give us hope for the future of our families, friends and children, give us peace and perhaps forgiveness when we pass over.
interesting that this is the main topic that has been commented on out of this list and not to far down, people already begin to disagree about it. this is the stuff wars are made of (sadly).

Great list! My faves: set goals, ignore minor irritations, stop taking things personally, meditate. I publish Horizons which is Florida’s new age magazine. I’m always amazed how the most simple things we can do are overlooked. If we did nothing else but your list, oh what a world this would be *hug*
